Introduction of Intimate Partner Violence

A statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau tells us that the rate of interracial and interethnic opposite-sex married couple household was less than 1% in 1970, but it grew really fast in decades, in 2000, the number was 7%, and in 2010, it increased to about 10%.

People should be happy as we see the rate increase and the gap of each race become smaller gradually. However, comparing to the monoracial relationships, the rate of intimate partner violence (IPV) in interracial families is higher. This phenomenon also relate to social class, culture background and race and ethnicity, and the influence is not only physically on couples, but also emotionally on other family members.

In 2011, there was reported that a man from Michigan with a very explosive temper targeted his two former girlfriends, and murdered them including their families. Killer of 7 Also in 2011, a pregnant mother gunned down at a crowded park by her boyfriend in South Carolina, just because she was trying to end the relationship. This gun shot also killed two non-related people. killed during picnic

Since people are expecting more on interracial relationships, it is essential to understand their family relations and life qualities. And from my point of view, the roles in the intimate partner violence are also a important part for us to learn. Whether the victim is a woman or a man, whether the victim is black or white, asian or latino, how people are injured physically and emotionally, and what about their children and other family members. This is a social problem that need all of us to pay attention on .
